Orbital

part 9

Spare
a thought  for "Dunlop 49"
-though no relation of mine-
perhaps the sight of it
connects us in more than name.

Here
shadows blow across the houses opposite
the wind is up,
the street light on,
the sea today was relatively calm.

What
I hear on the radio
is of innocents deaths in bombings,
concern for commodity prices,
amnesty petitions for debt relief,
that race, religion, caste, and class
still struggle to help the poorer world.

You can judge from space
-where this appears as but a distant
speck against the receeding sun-
what perspective you have?
trigonometry aside, absorbed
in the rules existant/outside of the endless sky.

The decorum and the vast array
of cultures and life
travel back and forth to your vanishing point view.

Each
cold heart of earth
is naught compared to the endless night
of cosmic wonder freezing whatever moisture
might have condensed
on your ship’s skin.

Like
unprovoked tears of parting,
-indistinct from tears of joy-
preserved intact, until you re-enter

this mote in gods eye called Gaia.
