Orbital

part 13

Some rocket connected
to your brain
reflecting neuron stars chasing magnets
in frozen nights

Dream:
Here, starlings preen,
perched upon the chimney tops,
preparing for flight.

the mist
at sea hides fishing boats
the gulls seek
when they trawl back across their wake.

Do ripples
form behind your hull,
reverberating into space?
The stars flickering in their crests and hollows...

Do you
dream today with more tomorrows
of arriving younger than you left the parting atmosphere
enveloped with technology that oversees
every nook and cranny
of your home away from home?

the constellations slightly change
your telescope is another brain
that calculates the different ways
the planets dance around you.

By what can you measure speed?
Here, a hedgerow verge
or painted lane
would pass my eye,
vanishing behind as clues to distance travelled.

Or waves,
dividing on the bow
would part around the wider hull
and angle back
behind the heaving deck.
